A product from Canada’s Niagara region and under a previous alias, Anubis Five was known in his hometown for being that kid who freestyled on Toronto radio and had a Much Music Vibe television appearance. Living in St. Catharines, Guelph and London, Ontario, he has become an integral staple in Ontario’s independent scene. Anubis Five is one half of Exit Theme with high school enemy Andy Able and member of the Motherboard collective.
Brandon Logic (yes, real name…) is from Racine, Wisconsin. He began handing out cassette tapes of his own electronic works back in the 8th grade, and he’s been independently releasing albums ever since. In high-school he played the drums in a local punk band. He later started focusing more on his own music and further developing his sound and aesthetic.
The Blos are a hip-hop duo from Eustleria, a planet long gone due to natural disasters. They have travelled to earth to warn it’s citizens of an upcoming catastrophe. Members Nehoc (musical and vocal vibrations) and P-Poc (vocal vibrations) have been walking the planet earth since 1979 and will continue to do so until the Eustlerian prophecy is fulfilled or until they can gas up and get the hell off of this doomed planet.

The Chukchee is a Germany-based beat maker that has been releasing self-produced EPs and albums for years and worked with many crazy Americans such as MynDwun, Nomar Slevik or the Mole, even crazier Canadians like Noah23, Selfhelp or Hobs Sputnik, and I can only imagine what his forthcoming productions for Hawaiisí Lxor will sound like.
Although the majority opinion seems to be that we are dealing with a crude, sneaky guy called Chuck Chee his handle respectfully references the Chukchi people inhabiting the Bering Street region of the Arctic Ocean. This scattered tribe still exhibits traits of their old animistic beliefs, and those beliefs are the key to the Chukcheeís mind-set, which is apparently centred on ancient metaphysics and the preastronautic detritus you hear so much about these days.
His beat patterns are abstract, complex and completely unpredictable to me; some of his creations sound slamming while others remind me of a percussion drill with hick-ups.
Interwoven in between his deep structures strange sounds and voice snippets evolve and attack the listenerís sanity. His music contains little sampling, most is being actually played on whatever instruments or computer programmes unknown to me.

Where: Hawthorne, New Jersey—land of funeral homes, banks & pizza parlors. When: 1996. I was pumping gas then just a junior in high school with all the time in the world. Since about eighth grade I had been into hip-hop; artists such as the Wu-Tang Clan, BDP, Public Enemy, Gang Starr, Das Efx, Cypress Hill, Masta Ace, Brand Nubian and Main Source were my choices of music. I would bring tapes to work and freestyle to the instrumental sections but looking back I think it was out of pure boredom that I began experimenting with writing rhymes. My earliest writings echoed the works of the Wu-Tang Clan with pathetic accuracy although the words lacked any true meaning or feeling to me personally and I never felt comfortable with them. Something made me keep writing I couldn’t tell you what it was.
In 1997 through the magic of the internet at my girlfriend’s house I discovered the music of the Jedi Mind Tricks, 7L & Esoteric, Virtuoso and Mr. Lif. The Psycho Social LP by JMT made such a huge impact on my writing style songs such as “I Who Have Nothing” showed me that you could have a different kind of meaning behind your words and get personal on the microphone in your own way. This is not to say that Wu-Tang doesn’t have meaning behind their words, but it isn’t a meaning that I could really ever relate to. I guess I always felt that there was a certain way you had to rap and some of this new music showed me that there was another way and it showed me I wasn’t alone out there. It was also around this time I dragged my friend Saga into the whole rap thing and he started getting real into writing and stuff as the years progressed.
Fast forward to 1999 when I attended a show in NYC at the Wetlands headlined by the Jedi Mind Tricks along with Virtuoso, Esoteric, Atoms Fam & Mr. Lif. Although I was at the show to see the aforementioned artists, it was the host of the show who caught my attention, an emcee by the name of Sage Francis. His freestyles and performances during the gaps between the other artist’s sets blew me away. He had a sense of humor, a sort of heart on sleeve honesty to his lyrics and I had never heard anything like it in my life. As soon as I got home I began looking up Mr. Francis on my newly purchased dial up internet connection. I picked up a few of his 12” records and very soon after was introduced to Anticon, Deep Puddle Dynamics, Buck65, Adeem and many other artists in the independent hip-hop scene.
2000 I really started focusing on music more and trying to write songs for albums instead of just writing random lyrics and throwing them over any old beat.
2001-2005 I was basically releasing limited run albums, developing my sound, my writing and my sound quality and networking with other producers/emcees. My musical tastes changed, I began to get really into the abstract/underground hip-hop, trip-hop, instrumental hip-hop and progressive/neo progressive rock genres and I strayed away from conventional hip-hop and even the battle rap I was listening to a year or two before.
By 2006 I had pretty much stopped listening to hip-hop all together finding that it distracted my creative process and my writing style. This is not to say that I don’t love hip-hop and have my roots firmly planted within the music, I just ceased seeking out new hip-hop music and focusing more on my own art instead. I will forever love the hip-hop music that emerged from the years 1989-1996 nothing could ever change that.
So far in 2007 I’ve released four albums (one full length and three EP’s), in the coming months I will continue working on the plethora of projects already in progress including full length albums, cd singles, side projects and even a concept album based around the character I created on Shipwrecked named the Jack of Hearts (aka Darius Reed).
Until then, Peas

Born in the Philippines and raised on the island of Oahu (Hawaii), Ghesol has been influenced by the deep cultural diversity, as well as the distant lifestyle attached to his Pacific location. His motivation as an emcee stems from watching local talents express themselves, while also observing the continuous transitions of music in general. Over the years, he’s cultivated the sound of his voice and wandered the Hawaii hip hop scene with the constant goal of creating music.
Ghesol’s long awaited debut album Chin Music features a diverse mixture of talent from Hawaii and beyond. Guest artists include Omega Cix, Woeski, Demune, Digest and Shanon, with the majority of beat production covered by DJ OG Dick Dawg.
He has been featured on tracks for various projects such as The TBS Project http://www.maryjoy.net/releases/mjcd046.html and has performed at numerous venues throughout Honolulu, as well as The Liquid Room in Tokyo, Japan.
Givian’s self released debut LP ‘Upperfriend’ is sure to cuddle and confound you (depending on the size of your Heart-On for the squishy caress of Amazon Top Soil between your toes.) Arrayed in a continuous forward moving assault of sugary savagery, his reach extends from here to your favorite country’s favorite space station’s Bra Strap, collecting psyche hickies along the way as far reaching as early 70s British Progressive Rock, Golden Era Hip-Hop, Musique Concrete, Impressionistic Classical, Moroder Sound Track Disco, the silent roar of the MGM Lion, fossilized Drum & Bass, Prototypical Japanese Synth Pop, a Broken Heart, an Open Mind and the untranslatable conversation between the East and West Wind uttered imperceptibly through time. Now it’s your job to start making folks grow Apples (within) and stop buying that Apple Sauce!! If you see the Sea, tell her Givian sent you; you’ll get a front row Seat at the Official Coronation of the unborn, undying Worldbody (hubba hubba). Now available in Surprise Splash flavor!

Slew is an emcee and producer out of Sacramento, California (originally Santa Clara, California). His music rides the lines between quick glitched drum and bass and hiphop. Very dark and sound scaped for the depths of the ears, like the farthest regions of imagination. With rhymes heavily built upon truth, soul searching, conspiracy and introspection, he builds a healthy or unhealthy world outlook, touching on change, the need for betterment towards the way we live and the preservation of nature, trying to escape this inclined decay. Lyrics with his original production mix in hard hitting telescoping transcending tracks, blurring the line for the listener to wonder upon. Very detail oriented from rhyme structure to drum programming, Slew is quickly developing a style all his own. He is also involved in other groups and projects such as Twilight Idols, Rogue Circuit, Blessid Wreck and numerous other production roles.

Southern California grown producer Smear has been recording and making music since age 16. soda has been doing music for a while now and when it comes to the question, what exactly he does, he starts to stutter. he hates to describe his music because what he does is music. influences come from everywhere. his musical roots are definitely in hiphop, but putting it down to that would be too easy. he does what he feels, and that is a lot of different things. he produces, writes and raps, sometime he tries to beatbox, sometimes he even might try to sing. some songs will tell you a whole lot about him, some won’t. that’s it. soda likes to test himself, work with new musicians all over the world and discover different sounds. So far he’s been active for the labels abgrund records, subversive and analog alpha, has worked with many different people from almost all over the world and he is more then happy to have found his way to new cocoon.

During a chance encounter in the middle of 2010, we came together and worked on a track. Three emcees with wildly different styles, that seemed to gel and mesh perfectly, complimenting each other musically on a level that was beyond pure chance. It was decided on day one that we were going to be a group, and that we were going to dedicate a significant amount of our time, money, and energy into creating the best music we could possibly make. Music that we want to hear, music that we’re not getting anywhere else. The idea was to just do something we could sit, listen to, and enjoy, and hopefully others like yourself could to. What we stumbled upon through our labor was something we feel is entirely unique to us and our influences, a subtle riff and tweak on conventional and underground hip hop. The names, dates and places aren’t important, all that matters is our music, and we hope you enjoy it. We are Submerge, and there will be more.

I dont know when it all started, i guess my musical evolution started when i was born, taking babysteps without me taking notice, music was always around thanks to mom who playad in bands when i grew up. Not thinking about it i was absorbing music, making love to it, i made it a part of me. Now a days i cant live without it, i think to much… there for i need music to function. My problem of to much thinking developed into an writing habit and it felt natural to combine it with music. Met a new friends who introduced me to Company flow back in the 90´s, it all whent to hell after that… and im not going anywhere. Started recording in different bedroomsstudios, it was all great fun. Today i am working with alot of talented peoples around the world, music is great like that, bringing people together, i consider them my friends. My wife and my son gives me inspiration to live my life the only way i can, as myself.
thms - always looking critical on the so called “truth” delivered by the system, always asking questions about the so called “truth” delivered by the system, never taking anything for granted - i stay critical… but positive. Always learning, im a novis of life and i always will be.
This is who i am today.

Is an omni dimensional emcee, and producer out of Southern California, who’s been creating original, independent music for ten years plus. Over the years he’s collaborated with many different artists ————too many to name. With much aspiration he has been able to network with people all around the world. He recently was jumped into the New Cocoon fam, but miraculously was able to re-cooperate over night. You can definitely expect to hear plenty of new raw material from this multi-talented artist in the near future!!!!

Twilight Idols is formed of two emcees and producers casting out from Sacramento, California, with varying degrees of poetics and musical imagery. Oger, with a sharp intuitive sound mashed with intelligence and emotion balanced by well thought out verbal soundscapes, and Slew, with a belligerent rhyme scheme scraping the bowels of inner thoughts and pure influence. The Idols started making music together in their sophomore year of high school. The long time friends share views on topics that are most important to them; global decay, the dumbing down of populations, the need to experiment, and introspection. Their first release was ”Apathetic Palm Reader.” The title in itself gives you a good idea of the sound. Hard hitting yet flutters between an array of colors and soundscapes.

Luke Mawer - Plato
Matt Parker - Earthkeptwarm
Rob Faulkner - Robotnik
Unspeakable Easels have previously put out a mini-album CD on the uber hip Unlabel, have a series of 7? records on general release courtesy of the industrious Summerisle Records, and a scattering of compilation releases. These have received several reviews across the UK and in e-zines spanning Europe and the United States. They have had airplay on BBC Radio, Resonance FM, Yorkshire local Radio and several stations and podcasts hosted in France and the UK. Already, the band are starting to create a buzz locally and have a sturdy fanbase along the west coast of the US. This has opened the doors to many collaborations the band have planned for the future. The band has been together for roughly two and a half years and things are moving quickly. So far, having undertaken a small UK tour, the Easels have supported Bonobo (ninja tune), Daedelus (ninja tune), Random Number (rock action) and Reptiles/// (liquid playthings). Unspeakable Easels are currently working on and collaborating with other artists for more material to be released throughout 2008.
Other projects that members of Unspeakable Easels have been involved with include Unlabel Tortoise-esque outfit Box which also featured members of Brighton post rock gurus Charlottefield (fat cat); Tin Monkey that featured members of London/Kent based math-rockers Headquarters; and Birmingham based hardcore punk outfit In These Days that featured members of London’s upcoming Green as a Primary. Alex is also currently writing and performing with Jonny Arachnid for the poetry project Bluescreen, taking the Leeds poetry circle by storm. Matt is working with Sebastian from No Sleep Production on the ambitious audio visual concept group Oko-oo-ho, and is playing guitar in the live project of Equinox label’s 2econd Class Citizen (who performed at Glastonbury Festival 2007 and is on a European tour this fall with Noah23 and Ceschi). Luke is busy recording and performing with Leeds based UK Hip Hop crew Unsigned Artists alongside his already burgeoning Solo repertoire. All members have collaborated with musicians poets, rappers and writers from America, Australia, Austria, Canada, Finland, Poland, and the UK.
A student of sound with an interest in creative writing, Variex is a San Francisco, California based producer and rapper. Part ambient electronic, part hip-hop, his music also incorporates elements of downtempo, shoegaze, and IDM. Variex plays both electronic and acoustic instruments, and rearranges chopped up samples to create original sounds. Writing songs like journal entries, his emotional delivery sits between textured melodies and glitch-hop drum patterns.
